They sell some really good courses for about 10-20 USD each when on sale. For more structured courses, try using Udemy and wait for a sale.

  • Look up Flipped Normals or Michael Pavlovich on youtube if you are looking for good free introductory courses.
  • You should also take the time to learn Maya too, because you will usually not be working only in Zbrush. It's the best tool for it's job, and companies who might hire you will expect you to know it (or else they will pass you up for somebody who does).

  • Yes, if you are serious about character modeling it is worth it.
  • Yes, the learning curve is steep, but it gets more intuitive once you get used to it.
  • If you are serious about character sculpting then it is one of the softwares that you do need to know. That being said, Zbrush is absolutely the best program at what it does, which is sculpting/organic modeling. After a lot of practice it becomes more intuitive but it takes time to get there, and even then there are things that you just have to get used to. The user interface is frustratingly different from most standard UIs, and it uses a lot of weird terminology. In my own experience Zbrush was one of the more challenging 3D softwares to learn.
